The city of Toronto is the biggest city in the newly created Greater Toronto Area (G.T.A.). Toronto is Canada’s largest city and the capital of Ontario.   Toronto's population is estimated to be well over 4.5 million and rising.  Toronto is an aboriginal word meaning, “place of meeting.”  Along with the many attractions that Toronto offers, it is a great place to live and work.

Toronto has many historical areas and newer trendier areas that are situated throughout the city.  The Annex is old part of the city which is situated in the middle of Toronto and has been a been a popular place to live since the turn of the century.  The Annex is in close distance to all of Toronto’s major attractions and blends a number of restaurants and entertainment into an interesting and enjoyable place to live.

The Eaton Centre is what defines many people’s opinion of what the centre of Toronto is.  The gigantic mall is home to hundreds of stores and covers almost an entire block.  It is situated along the world’s longest street, Yonge St., and is bound by Bay St. on the west, Queen St. to the south and Dundas St. to the North.  Right beside the Eaton Centre is Toronto’s old and new City Hall.

Situated in the College St. and Spadina Ave. area, is the historic University of Toronto, which has been educating students for centuries.  This area is also home to the politicians of Ontario who can be found debating issues in Ontario’s parliament, Queen’s park.

The Beach is another trendy area of Toronto where people are always busy keeping up with the various events that the area hosts every year.  This small area frequently hosts large numbers of people in upwards of 100 000 to its annual events like the Jazz festival and it’s Canada Day celebrations.  The Beach has many basement apartments and rental housing due to the popularity of the area.

Toronto is a city of many cultures.  It has been calculated that the city is the home of more than 100 ethnic groups speaking over 100 languages.  Toronto’s Chinatown situated along Spadina Ave. is one of Toronto’s many tourist attractions.  Little Italy is home to a large portion of Toronto’s Italian community and is situated along St. Clair Ave. West.  Toronto also has a Greektown that covers much of Danforth Ave.

Toronto’s harbourfront is another big tourist attraction, which holds many events throughout the summer months and is home to many condominiums and apartments, which give a tremendous view of the city to the north and the Toronto Islands to the south.  Also located just north of the harbourfront are Skydome and the CN Tower, which happens to be the world’s tallest building.
